![]() Version 6.0Ī new server deserved a new site, so as soon as I signed up for the new host in August 2005, I began work on a new site. Toward the end, pics made their way back to the site after being removed in v4.0. I again used BBEdit, with layout accomplished by CSS floats. While I did intent to finish the site, I instead became side tracked into outright moving from iBlog, and spent most spare time preparing for the move and writing Version 6 instead. In fact, most site pages said only “Comming soon” (Note that “coming” was spelled wrong). ![]() The blog made it up, along with place holders for most site pages, but never any content on the site. Though I accomplished my goal of getting the site and blog to match, the site was never finished. The plain white was wonderful on the site, but blogs really need sidebars for navigation, and that just wouldn’t be possible with this template. Since the very plain format of the site just wouldn’t work for the blog, it would need to be changed again. I learned as much as I could about editing the iBlog template files, and set out. In March of 2005, I decided the blog and site should look more similar. It was dubbed hooji 1.0, but is version 4 of the site. It was a plain white with bright colors, stories and pics were now in the blog, and there was no sidebar on the site. Version 4.0Īfter playing with v3b4 and b5 for a few months, I began implementing some of the changes outlined for b5 in October 2004. This move resulted in V3 never having a “final” version, all 5 were betas. I liked it, but was tiring of V3 consisting of endless betas, so it was never publicly released and mostly rolled over to V4. Again, a hand coded, ground up rewrite using BBEdit. Some sections, such as Stories and Pics would be moved to the blog to further streamline the site. ![]() Version 3.0 beta 5Īfter v3b4 being kinda ugly and too flashy, I decided maybe a very plain, simple page, with no sidebar, and some nice bright category images would be better. It was planned to become final on May 27, 2004, but do to looking rather crappy it was a permanent beta. A try to hide my lack of content with eye candy. CSS and JS were planned to be included, and I even tried to put an RSS feed from the blog on then front page. In March 2004, armed with the lessons from betas 1-3, I began work on v3b4, a showcase of all I knew. The v3 series was hand coded from scratch, using no previous code. Though they were early versions of v3, some features were used for v2.5. I also played with the idea of dual sidebars. I used BBEdit again, but CSS absolute positioning for layout of 2 of these betas, and tables for the third. The underlaying point behind them was to bring CSS to the site and prove I could hand write the entire thing from scratch. The first 3 betas were trial and error, playing with different things I had learned at Delta College in my various classes and from past versions of the site. Version 3.0 betas 1, 2, and 3Īlso during February of 2004 while working on v2.5, I decided that while the upgrade was nice a more thorough rewrite was about due. From the user’s perspective, it actually looks identical to 2.1 but functioned a bit faster. In February of 2004, I decided that the file structure of the site was rather poor and unorganized, so cleaned it all up while also removing the last bits of GoLive code. Also, much of the “wasteful” GoLive code was stripped away, as I was now using BBEdit for site building. v2.1 upgraded 2.0 with a JS created header, footer, and sidebar, and added the library, system, and stories sections. In January of 2004, I was learning JavaScript and decided it would be a good idea to use it on the site, so I did. Built using GoLive but now with tables for layout and featuring actual content for the first time rather than just a pretty layout to host a couple photos. Version 2.0īy September 2003 I decided the website was really sucking, so I rebuilt it. The initial iBlog blog was completely different looking from the website, something I rather hated and would plague me for 2 years (until v5.0). Built using Adobe GoLive with frames for layout.Ībout midway through 1.0, I moved from Blogger to iBlog, that like the website was hosted through my. Originally, it was planned to be hosted in my geocities webspace, but I decided since I was paying for. ![]() Version 1.0Īfter I started to blog in May 2003, I found the need for a website, and by June I created Nick’s Rants to host pictures for the blog (at the time on Blogger). Hosted on my PowerMacintosh 7600 when we had internet service and were capable of running a web server from home. ![]()

![]() I’d love to see young adults of every race read this novel to help them develop empathy and understanding of another group’s challenges. It’s also not written for people who have decided either a) racism doesn’t exist or b) white men are persecuted just as much as anyone else. So after giving this book much thought, I decided I may not love it in terms of its style and execution, but it wasn’t written for me. By the way I’m strongly opposed to racism!” Of course, it should go without saying that the reviewer’s tone was one of “I know I’m going to get crucified for this review because everybody loves this book, but this is why it’s racist, and if you disagree with me you clearly just don’t understand my enlightened opinion. So I guess the reviewer’s point is that she/he doesn’t see color? And anyone who talks about race issues is racist? Then I went back and read The Hate You Give again and asked forgiveness for ever doubting its necessity. Then I tried to find a sarcastic meme about racism to go with this point and had to stab my eyes out with an American flag because of the sheer number of truly racist memes there are online. “I don’t care abut that kinda stuff, Starr. “What the fuck’s that got to do with anything?” “I’m white?” he says, like he’s just hearing that for the first time. From what I gather, the reviewer is referencing the passage where Starr tells her boyfriend Chris why she’s been giving him the silent treatment: I’m not going to link to the review because I don’t want to give it any more oxygen, but the reviewer’s perspective is that the book is racist because Starr tells a character he doesn’t understand something because he is white. Then I read a review like one I saw recently on GoodReads, and I realize my naiveté stems from underestimating what counts as a revolutionary idea. ![]() I don’t think it’s tremendously insightful to say that an unarmed man shouldn’t be pulled over and shot by the police for driving while black, and whether or not he was a drug dealer is an irrelevant discussion. I’m the first to admit that I’ve become jaded from seeing the same story play out on the news on a weekly (daily?) basis. My initial reaction to this novel is it has positive things to say and it’s an important story, but it’s not terribly subtle. I can enjoy something from that genre, but I will rarely love it. But I’m struggling a bit with this one, mainly because I don’t normally read young adult literature. Second, I don’t normally read reviews before I write my own, because I want to be honest about what I’m feeling and I don’t want to inadvertently borrow someone else’s thoughts or jump on a bandwagon. I’m inspired to pay it forward by adding something from my “already read” stack when I return it. I’d heard of this novel but might not have been prompted to borrow it if I hadn’t seen it through the friendly little window. A few weeks ago I picked this up from one in my neighborhood and it was my first time borrowing anything from one of those tiny bibliotecas. Or for at least reading this far down into the README.įollow me on twitter and check-out my other repositories if I've earned it.First things first: I want to give a shout out to the Little Free Libraries of the world. The color conversion functions are written in a very abstract form (as close to Haskell as I could) as to be reproducible in other languages and just darn better to read. My reasoning for CoffeeScript is to allow this repository to serve as a learning resource as well as a tool for those who would like to improve it. It is designed to be run, not only online, but offline. ![]()

Springtime is great because all the plants in my garden begin to wake up after their winter’s nap and show new life. ![]() One of the reasons I love conifers so much is the grand assortment of cones that are borne on their branches. I look forward to the next several weeks as the hunt will continue and I will discover more and more tiny treasures throughout my garden. As they mature and begin to elongate a little further, their color takes on some hints of yellow and red suggesting a tinge of orange before they fully open, empty themselves of pollen, and then dry and fade away after completing their important reproductive function. Pinus mugo 'Big Tuna' is a great, compact, upright form with rich green foliage and colorful pollen cones.Īnother favorite discovery right now is the colorful pollen cones of Pinus mugo ‘Big Tuna’ with their purplish tightly closed pockets of pollen awaiting just the right conditions to open and begin to disperse their fertile pollen into the air. The female cones will develop and mature for the next few months, becoming larger and slowly morphing from a spiraling column of reddish-pink pointed wings to a gradient of muted yellowish-green to pink stack of wings on an ever thickening body. The seed cones begin to develop shortly after the pollen cones and just prior to their spring flush of new foliage. I love the cone development on my Abies koreana ‘Blauer Pfiff’. ![]() Take a strong magnifying lens or your camera with a quality macro mode, and you just might be surprised at the wonders you will discover. One of it's wonderful features is that is seems to cone at a fairly young age.īut don’t let that stop you from getting out into your garden and taking a close look at your conifers. No doubt, for whatever reason, last year was an extraordinary year for the cone hunter! Abies koreana 'Blauer Pfiff' is a wonderful, low-growing form of Korean fir. I asked my friends at Iseli what they were seeing this year, and their observation is very much like my own. It is still early, but by this time last year I was seeing more cone developement on more species and cultivars than I had ever seen in one season before. Both my garden and the gardens and production fields at Iseli showed an abundance of cones like I’ve never seen before. I believe that last year was an especially good year for cone production on the conifers in my area. This year is definitely proving to be a week or two behind last year when it comes to my conifers beginning their spring flush of new growth and their display of male pollen cones and the female seed cones. I must still be a kid at heart, playing a horticultural version of hide and seek, because I love looking for those colorful little signs that springtime has arrived. You may recall from past posts how much I enjoy the hunt for the first signs of tiny cones beginning to develop on my conifers. ![]() ![]() ![]() Additionally, you can peruse the most recent article about Serato DJ Crack from our site. For fruitful Cracking turn off your framework antivirus framework.Presently, tap on the Crack and following couple of moments restart your framework and again run the VirtualDJ.Keep the setup in the program establishment envelope and unload it. ![]() Second, go the download connection and snap for the Crack setup.Go to the first webpage and download the preliminary form of VirtualDJ most recent.Numerous other program helpful enhancements in this form.Fresh out of the box new skin with adjustable PAD pages. ![]()

They felt it to be akin to racist terms such as 'wog', 'wop' and 'spic'. Rather than anything offensive in the word itself they were offended by its use as a term of abuse, especially in a racist manner. ![]() ![]() In 2006, an Auckland, New Zealand, Planet FM's English community radio program 'The Anglofiles' received feedback that many English people living in New Zealand considered the word Pom to be highly offensive. The joke was that the 'fresh off the boat' newly arrived, or 'new apples.' Under the Australian sun the white British turned bright red in the Australian sun, like an apple thus the name "pommy" from "pomme." However, the term "pommy" was coined long before POM was used as acronym for the port.Ĭomes from "pomme", French for apple. It is rhyming slang for tommy, international slang for a British soldier Īn acronym for "Port of Melbourne". "prisoner of Millbank", after the area of London where prisoners were held prior to transportation Other etymologies which are unsupported by evidence include: Some proponents of this theory claim that upon arrival in the country they would be given a uniform with "POHM" or "POME" emblazoned on the back, which apparently stood for Prisoners Of Her Majesty but there are no images or examples of these uniforms. In another variant, it is used to mean 'Product of Mother England'. Although many of the first British settlers in Australia were convicts sentenced to transportation to Australia, there is no evidence for this. However, there is no hard evidence for the theory regarding sunburn.Ī false etymology (or "backronym") common in both Australia and New Zealand is that 'Pom' originated as an acronym for "prisoner of (his/her) majesty" or "prisoner of mother England". The OED also suggests that the reason for this is that pomegranate is extinct Australian rhyming slang for immigrant it cites an article from 14 November 1912, in a once-prominent Australian weekly magazine The Bulletin: "The other day a Pummy Grant (assisted immigrant) was handed a bridle and told to catch a horse." A popular alternative explanation for the theory that pommy is a contraction of "pomegranate", relates to the purported frequency of sunburn among British people in Australia, turning their fair skin the colour of pomegranates. The Oxford English Dictionary (OED) strongly supports the theory that pommy originated as a contraction of "pomegranate". The origin of this term is not confirmed and there are several persistent false etymologies. Some Australians have been known to call (to their ears 'well spoken' or British sounding) people from New Zealand - South Sea Poms, or even to call fellow citizens that lack a perceptibly broad or general Australian English accent (typically cultivated Australian English) - Poms. The term pommy or pom is commonly used by speakers of Australian English, New Zealand English, South African English and Afrikaans. It was used as a derogatory term, but has since become a generalised term for English people. According to British Naval records the term "Pommie" came about from the red "pom-pon" on the top of the hats of British sailors who were involved in the transfer of prisoners to the Colonies. ![]() ![]() ![]() Setting download priority for the files in a torrent These settings will be automatically applied the next time you add a task.
